3-Pack - Derby-PieĀ®Chocolate Nut Pie from Kern’s Kitchen

A True Kentucky favorite. Derby PieĀ® has been a southern tradition for more than 40 years. Made from a secret family recipe, Derby-PieĀ® combines rich semi sweet chocolate with English walnuts for a truly decadent experience.

The Derby-PieĀ® was created in 1950 by the Melrose Inn in Prospect, Kentucky as a specialty pastry. The restaurant’s owners and Derby-PieĀ® creators were Walter and Leaudra Kern, who constantly researched the optimal recipe for their creation. They were assisted by their son George Kern. The name ā€œDerby-PieĀ®ā€ was chosen because the various family members each had a different name for the creation, so to resolve the naming quandary they put the various names in a hat, and pulled out the paper which said ā€œDerby-PieĀ®ā€.

Today, the 4th generation continues creating the world famous Derby-PieĀ®. Slowly and carefully using only the finest ingredients and focusing on quality before quantity. Kern’s offers the Derby-PieĀ® in two sizes, 9″ pie and a smaller tart version, suitable for a single serving. In addition, they recently introduced the first new addition in almost 50 years, the Golden Pecan Pie, with all the Southern you could ever ask for.

The Derby-PieĀ® is fully cooked, ready to warm and serve, or freeze for later use, (we suggest warming slightly as indicated on the box and maybe, just maybe, adding a dollop of whipped cream with a touch of good Kentucky bourbon…but that’s up to you). Serves 8 to 10.

Price includes gingham or seasonal bow ribbon and gift card with you message.

Net weight: 1lb 4oz fully cooked ready to warm and serve. Serves 8-10.

If shipping to a warm area, consider adding a ā€œWarm Weather Ice Packingā€ in order to preserve the quality of perishables like chocolates.
